How Surfing, Love & Tantra are making a dream come true
Nov 27, 2025As I've left Colombia and am making my way toward home in Costa Rica, my heart is full and tender. I've been feeling into everything this season has revealed—the masterclasses, the community, the devotion, the deep openings that continue to unfold as we walk this spiritual path together.
And today, I want to share something a little surprising, yet completely aligned. Unexpected, but profoundly meaningful. And so deeply connected to Tantra, love, and consciousness.
The new mission Spirit put on my path
Many of you know that for me, Tantra is not just a spiritual practice. It's a way of living, with love, presence, devotion, and embodied awakening. It's about showing up fully, listening to the call of the heart, expanding consciousness, uplifting humanity, and answering the invitations Spirit places in our path.
And one of the prayers I've held for years is this: How can I support youth, especially young men? How can I help before life hardens them? How can I give them tools, hope, and possibility?
As a Colombian-American woman, a mother of three sons, as someone who works intimately with men and women on their healing, as a teacher devoted to love—this longing has always lived in my heart. And in Colombia this month, Spirit answered.
A new Dream was born
During my time in Cartagena, something awakened in me through the surf community there — a clarity, a calling, a deep sense of purpose. A long-term vision came alive: The Soul on Fire Surf Scholarship Fund:
A mission to support young Colombian surfers from under-resourced, often poverty-stricken backgrounds, offering opportunities for travel, training, equipment, coaching, and the chance to rise into their highest potential. And today, I want to introduce the first young man who inspired it all.
Meet Oscar
Oscar is a 16-year-old surfer from Cartagena who grew up with almost no support at home and in conditions of extreme poverty that most people never see or imagine. These are still his realities today. And yet he rises. He trains. He stays devoted. He dreams. He shows up with a heart full of humility, discipline, and hope.
Through my surf coach, Chispy, I had the chance to sponsor Oscar in a local contest last weekend. Oscar not only won, he earned the opportunity of a lifetime: to represent Colombia at the ISA World Junior Surfing Championships this weekend in Peru. This is huge. This is life-changing. This is the beginning of a completely new future.
And when I heard his story, my heart spoke so clearly: This is part of your Tantra. This is love made real. This is what Tantra looks like in action; uplifting the next generation through love, presence, and community.
When Oscar told me he had qualified for the World Championships in Peru, my whole body lit up. His coach, his friends, and everyone in the surf community were glowing with pride. But beneath the excitement, there was a hard truth: he cannot go without financial support.
The expenses are simply too high; airfare, lodging, food, competition entry fees, a new wetsuit for Peru's cold water, transportation, and all the travel and surf essentials he needs to compete at this level.
And in that moment, the Soul on Fire Surf Scholarship Fund was born.
Let's get Oscar to the World Championships
This is why I am reaching out to you during this Thanksgiving week, not only to help Oscar get to Peru now but to begin building the Soul on Fire Surf Scholarship Fund for future young athletes like him.
A suggested contribution is $25–$100, though of course any amount helps, and larger gifts are deeply welcomed. Your generosity will make it possible for him to proudly represent Colombia on the world stage.
Your contribution doesn't just get Oscar to Peru. It helps seed the entire Soul on Fire Surf Scholarship Fund, supporting future young surfers: boys from deeply limited resources who would never have access to opportunities like these.

The heart behind this fund: Cheyne’s legacy
The Soul on Fire Surf Scholarship Fund is born from something deeply personal. It is a living tribute to my son, Cheyne, who passed away seven years ago. Cheyne had a beautiful, tender soul — sensitive, creative, funny, and full of dreams. One of those dreams was to surf.
Growing up in Colorado, he didn’t have much access to the ocean, but he kept a surfboard close like a symbol of possibility. He imagined the day he would get to live his surf dream. That day never came — and for years, I have been searching for a meaningful way to honor his life, his light, and his dream.
When I began sponsoring a few young surfers in Colombia, it started as something small — supporting them for a single contest. But very quickly, it grew into something bigger. I could feel Cheyne’s presence guiding me, whispering, “Mom, let this be bigger.”
That’s when I realized: This is the project my heart has been waiting for. A way to pour love back into the world in Cheyne’s name. A way to help other young dreamers achieve what he never had the chance to do. A way to transform loss into purpose, and grief into a wave that rises and carries others forward.
This fund is Cheyne’s legacy — a tribute to his spirit, his smile, his dreams — and a blessing to every young surfer whose life it touches.
Everyone who donates will receive updates on how Oscar performs in Peru, news about future competitions, updates on the Soul on Fire Surf Scholarship Fund, and opportunities to stay involved and support future young athletes.
This is community. This is love. This is Tantra in action.
With so much love, devotion, and gratitude,
Monica 🌹
