Navratri Practice Guide

The World Needs the Goddess More Than Ever

Oct 09, 2026

Navratri begins this Sunday, October 11th, and I wanted to share why this sacred celebration holds such a special place in my heart.

Navratri, meaning “nine nights,” is a beautiful Hindu festival from India, dedicated to honoring the Divine Feminine in her many expressions. It is a time of devotion, purification, transformation, and awakening the sacred qualities of the Goddess within ourselves.

For me, Navratri always seems to arrive at the perfect time. September is personally the most challenging and emotional month of my year, and as I move into October, I welcome this opportunity to clear, renew, and reconnect with the parts of myself that may have become overshadowed by life’s challenges.

Interestingly, I’m writing to you from the beautiful Blue Ridge Mountains of North Carolina, where I’m immersed in an Ayurvedic Panchakarma cleanse at Sohum Retreat Center. The timing couldn’t feel more perfect! As I nourish and cleanse my body, mind, and spirit, I’m also preparing to enter these nine sacred nights with renewed intention and devotion, something I’ll be sharing with my Tantra Yoga Sadhana sisterhood as well.

And this year, I feel the call to awaken the Goddess more strongly than ever.

When I read about the disturbing allegations of sexual assault at Cornell University, I was deeply affected. Stories like this remind me why we need to awaken the fierce, protective, courageous, and compassionate qualities of the Divine Feminine, not only within ourselves but in how we show up for one another and our world.

This is the energy of Durga, the Goddess who embodies courage, protection, and the willingness to confront injustice. How deeply our world needs this energy right now!

Although Navratri comes from the sacred Hindu traditions of India and is celebrated by women and men alike, its invitation to reflect on these divine qualities can speak to us regardless of our spiritual path. We can all benefit from awakening the strength, radiance, and wisdom that already live within us.

In the tradition I practice and share, we honor three beloved expressions of the Goddess: Durga, Lakshmi, and Saraswati. Each reminds us of something essential about ourselves, and each offers an opportunity to awaken qualities we may have forgotten or neglected.
Let me introduce you to these three magnificent goddesses.

Durga: Your Inner Strength 🔱

Durga is the fierce protector. She is the part of you that rises when life gets hard, that holds the line when everything feels uncertain, and that reminds you of your unshakable power.
She is the energy that says: I will not be broken. I will rise. If you have ever surprised yourself with your own strength, you have felt Durga.

Lakshmi: Your Radiance and Abundance 🌸

Lakshmi is beauty, prosperity, and sacred worthiness. She is the part of you that knows you deserve to receive love, abundance, joy, and everything beautiful in life.
She is the energy that says: I am worthy. I am enough. If you have ever felt fully alive, radiant, and open to receiving, you have felt Lakshmi.

Saraswati: Your Wisdom and Truth 🎶

Saraswati is the wise seer. She is your intuition, your creative voice, your inner knowing.
She is the energy that says: I trust what I know. I honor my truth. If you have ever felt a deep inner knowing guiding you forward, you have felt Saraswati.

Honoring the Sacred Tradition

These goddesses come from the ancient Hindu traditions of India, where they are revered as living expressions of the Divine Feminine. They are far more than symbols or metaphors to their devotees. They are deeply loved and honored manifestations of the Divine who have inspired and guided generations.

As we enter Navratri, we honor these sacred roots with reverence and gratitude, while opening our hearts to the wisdom and transformation these teachings offer.

Your Free Navratri Practice Guide

To support you through these nine sacred nights, I created a free guide called Awakening the Goddess Within. Inside you will find:

  • An opening ritual for night one and a closing ritual for night nine
  • A mantra, journal prompt, and ritual tip for each goddess phase
  • The sacred color for each phase: red, gold, and white
  • Simple suggestions for how to live these nine nights
  • A closing blessing

You don’t need to do it perfectly. A candle, a few quiet minutes, and an honest intention are enough.

As you enter these nine sacred nights, I invite you to reflect on what your life is asking of you right now. Perhaps you are being called to awaken Durga’s courage, Lakshmi’s abundance and self-worth, or Saraswati’s wisdom and creative expression. Perhaps, like me, you are moving through a season of change and are ready to release what no longer serves you and make space for something new.

May these nine sacred nights remind you of the strength, beauty, wisdom, and divine love that have always lived within you.

With all my love,

Monica ❤️
